The infection might not cause immediate symptoms, but it can eventually start to seriously affect your health. Both men and women are at an increased risk of picking up other STIs, such as HIV if the infection isn't treated in time. It can also increase a woman's risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancy, while men could develop epididymitis which may also eventually lead to infertility.
